History provides us with current perspectives about the past, and perspectives from people of the past; it is important to learn the traditions and events experienced by those who came before us, as these have shaped Australia’s diverse social and cultural identity (Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority [ACARA], (2016). Civics and Citizenship (CC) enables young ‘historians’ to gain a deeper understanding of how past events connect to the modern world; thus, make learning history relevant (ACARA, 2016; Brett, 2018; Gilbert & Hoepper, 2017).
